Since reaching its current location in Boston, the firm has experienced many changes which include the addition of several large and small attorney groups, law firms and individual lateral hires. Some of the larger additions to the firm include the following:
- In 1989 the practice of Van Tine & Van Tine PC joined us with four attorneys, giving the firm the opportunity to open a South Shore office in Rockland, Massachusetts. The South Shore office subsequently moved to Hingham where it is today.
- Later that same year, ten lawyers from Greenman, Grossman & Duffy joined our ranks.
- In 1992, ten lawyers joined the firm from Posternak Blankstein & Lund.
- 1996 brought to us ten more attorneys from Cuddy & Bixby and a Metro West office in Wellesley, Massachusetts, which is now the Waltham office.
- In 2001, six attorneys from Lane Altman & Owens LLP joined the firm.
- In 2002, twelve attorneys from Peabody & Arnold joined, including its entire Providence office.
- The next large growth spurt was in January 2006 with the addition of thirty-five attorneys from the law firm Perkins, Smith & Cohen.
- The firm also formed two subsidiaries to help better serve clients:
- In 1996, the firm formed Burns & Levinson Asset Management LLC (BLAM) for work being provided to existing trust clients by its Trust Department. From its Boston Office, BLAM continues to work with many of the firm's trust clients as well as other individual clients in investment advisory and portfolio management services.
- In 2001, Burns & Levinson Canada Co. (BLC) was formed to assist Canadian and U.S. companies in doing business across borders. BLC is located in Boston and in Montreal, Quebec.
