"Women Attorneys and the Invisible Glass Ceiling," featuring Justice Fernande "Nan" Duffly
Date: Tuesday, June 14
Around the country, women leaders in the legal profession have been pressuring for research and deeper conversation about issues facing law firms, women attorneys, and the glass ceiling. In partnership with NALP, the NAWL and NAWJ have pressed for the development of objective ways to measure women’s leadership in law firms. For example, do firms report all their partners as equity partners? What happens is that some firms report all partners in the category of equity partner – and then get listed as having a much greater percentage of women and minority equity partners than is actually the case.
In April 2010 NALP’s Board of Directors re-affirmed their belief that equity / non-equity partnership data is meaningful and important consumer information that is very valuable to law students, among others, as they evaluate law firms as potential employers. The data collection has been completed and the results will have been published for review at this Forum. Justice Duffly, newly appointed to our Supreme Judicial Court, has been active in this effort to address the invisible glass ceiling, as well as to help inspire a meaningful analysis of to what degree women participate in real decision-making and the distribution of power in today’s law firm environment. Justice Duffly will lead our discussion.
Please RSVP by Friday, June 10 to Chrisana Watson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
