Prior to joining Burns & Levinson LLP in January 2006, Mr. Perkins was a founder and Partner with the firm Perkins Smith & Cohen LLP.

Mr. Perkins' general practice includes representation of individuals and businesses, particularly in the areas of closely held and family owned businesses, real estate developments, retail and commercial leasing (representing both landlord and tenants), manufacturers and distributors of consumer and commercial products and medical devices, various service providers including arbor culturists, business acquisitions and sales, estate and family business, succession and financial planning, and estate and trust administration (including serving as personal representative and trustee). Mr. Perkins also represents several Boston area national and regional banks in the areas of secured lending and credit facilities (representing lenders and borrowers), including letters of credit, commercial loans, real estate and other asset based lending arrangements, inventory/accounts receivable financing, and enforcement of UCC Article 9 secured party rights.

As counsel to a Massachusetts not-for-profit college, Mr. Perkins handles various educationally related matters, particularly charitable giving and fund raising arrangements and strategies, trustee and governance matters, construction contracts, and tax-exempt bond financings. Recent transactions include $17 million and $37.5 million letter of credit/revenue bond financings with a Massachusetts development finance agency for construction and renovation of residence halls, student center, power plant and other projects.

In connection with his business practice, Mr. Perkins counsels individuals and businesses regarding visas and immigration matters (pertaining both to persons coming to the United States, and U.S. workers going abroad), including work visas available to executives/managers, investors and professionals such as scientists, optical, textile, electrical and software engineers, attorneys, arborists, interior designers and marketing/product analysts.
