Experience:

Prior to joining Burns & Levinson LLP in September 2009, Dr. Moore was with the Boston law firm K&L Gates and before that she practiced at Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault. In her legal practice, Dr. Moore applies her experience as a veterinarian and scientist and her background in pathology to provide legal advice in all aspects of intellectual property to inventors and senior management of pharmaceutical, biologic, medical device and medical diagnostic companies, start-ups and emerging companies, venture capital, as well as colleges and universities. Much of her representation involves patent procurement especially in the area of worldwide strategic patent and trademark portfolio development, merger and acquisition due diligence, intellectual property licensing, and validity, freedom to operate, and non-infringement analysis. Her clients’ technologies include medical devices for interventional procedures, in the orthopedic, urogenital, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal and neurological systems. She has also prosecuted patents for wound healing products, molecular-based and immunology-based diagnostic assays, automated clinical analytical instrumentation, endoscopic equipment, biologics, cell-based therapies, and recombinant medical products.

As a board certified veterinary pathologist, Dr. Moore has expertise in disease mechanisms with a particular emphasis on infectious disease. She has also developed and studied animal models of human diseases. As a scientist, her NIH funded grants were directed to investigating transepithelial transport of small molecules and the cell biology of repair in the gastrointestinal tract. As a former veterinary practitioner and pathologist, Dr, Moore has hands-on experience with medical diagnostics, interventional medical devices, and therapeutics and an in depth understanding of the anatomy and microanatomy of the systems of the body.

Prior to entering the legal field, Dr. Moore practiced veterinary medicine at the Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston. She also was a Resident in Pathology and a Research Fellow in Comparative Pathology at the N.E. Regional Primate Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Moore is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathology, Emeritus. She also was an Associate Professor of Pathology at Tufts University Schools of Veterinary Medicine, Dental Medicine, and Medicine. While at Tufts University, she served for over a decade as the Principal Investigator on multiple National Institute of Health (NIH) sponsored medical research grants. Dr. Moore was the primary course director and lecturer in the veterinary medical school curriculum. In 1997 she joined the former law firm Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault to become a life sciences technology specialist and later an associate in the Patent Intellectual Property group.
