At Burns & Levinson, we practice law differently. While our attorneys agree that results drive our business, building relationships with our clients and providing value added service is the key to our success. We work hard to provide the legal experience and industry knowledge you need, as well as the personal attention you deserve - adding value to your life and the life of your business. At Burns & Levinson, your personal and business success is our top priority - so whatever your legal need, consider it done.
As a Boston-based firm with over 125 attorneys and offices in Providence and New York, as well as in the Merrimack Valley / North Shore, Metro West and South Shore areas of Massachusetts, we are large enough to represent clients in complex and sophisticated matters, yet small enough to be very responsive, providing direct partner-level, proactive advice. Burns & Levinson has two wholly owned subsidiaries, one of which is located in Boston and the other in Montreal, Quebec.
Our lawyers are experienced and extremely motivated. They're willing
to go beyond their traditional role and do whatever it takes to get results.
No matter what your legal need, we've got you covered.
Here are a few examples of how we get things done:
Our core areas of practice are Business Law, Business Litigation, Intellectual Property, Real Estate and Private Client legal services, which include all related services from general corporate, intellectual property (including patents), employment, finance, securities, private equity, venture capital, real estate to tax, mediation, litigation, divorce, family law, trusts and estate planning and administration.
Burns & Levinson LLP understands that each client has unique needs. We provide a team approach by utilizing all the talent available within our firm and partnering with others to meet our clients' needs. Our attorneys are client-centered and focused on more than just the matter at hand - they are business advisors, thinking globally - They want to know about your business and legal matter and how they can best support it. This is how they add extra value beyond the legal work.
Our entrepreneurial culture provides a sense of independence, while offering a team approach to support our attorneys' efforts and our clients' endeavors.
We represent dynamic, growth-oriented businesses, privately and publicly held companies, universities, institutions and individuals primarily located in the northeast.
Our clients are in various industries from traditional manufacturing and service businesses, high-technology and life sciences companies, and emerging companies to scientists, entrepreneurs and Canadian, Chinese and Israeli-based companies.
We pride ourselves on service. The firm has two subsidiaries to provide additional service to our clients. They are:
Burns & Levinson Asset Management (B&L Asset Management LLC d/b/a Burns & Levinson Asset Management) provides investment advisory and portfolio management services.
Burns & Levinson Canada Co. provides cross-border business consulting services and investment introductions to Canadian companies looking to do business in the U.S. and U.S. companies looking to do business in Canada.
The firm is a member of the Law Firm Alliance, a strategic alliance of mid-sized law firms that was established to provide legal clients greater access to high quality and cost-effective legal services. The strength of the Law Firm Alliance’s international network of member firms lies in the combined experience of more than 50 firms and 4,000 attorneys throughout North America, Europe and Asia, all with a deep commitment to client service.
Burns & Levinson’s affiliation with the Law Firm Alliance connects our clients with a multitude of knowledge bases in all major areas of the law. In addition, the Alliance also includes attorneys with specialty national practices, to address issues that may require expertise in narrower legal areas. Through the Alliance, we are able to call upon the counsel and assistance of member firms when our clients need local representation, wherever it may be required. Each law firm in the Alliance has extensive knowledge and experience with its state and local laws, governmental agencies, judicial systems, and business community, and can effectively meet the specific needs of our clients. In this way, we offer clients the global reach of larger law firms, without sacrificing the efficiency, swiftness of response, or personal relationships of smaller firms. Alliance member firms are also able to offer our clients more competitive legal fees than are customary when using larger national or global law firms.
Membership in the Law Firm Alliance is highly selective, and by invitation only. Members are chosen based on recommendations by clients or other firms, and as a result are typically among the most outstanding law firms in their geographic area, with the highest ethical standards. All members offer a breadth of legal services, maintain substantial corporate and litigation practices, and are comprised of attorneys with comparable depth and skills who have a strong commitment to client service.
Thomas Burns and Larry Levinson, our Founders, along with William Clancy and Robert Weinstein established Burns & Levinson LLP in 1960 on the principles of being accessible to our clients and being responsive to their needs and ultimately providing the highest quality legal services. These principles have served our clients well. Our continued commitment to the founding principles of the Firm results in an entrepreneurial approach to providing services.
In January 2006, thirty-five attorneys from the Boston-based law firm of Perkins Smith & Cohen LLP joined the firm. The addition of these attorneys, highly known for their patent and intellectual property practices, with a focus on the science and technology sector, added depth and further enhanced our ability to fully service the science and technology industries.
Since then we have continued to support our clients in key areas of practice, adding talented attorneys in a variety of areas, expanding the breadth of expertise and experience to effectively serve their needs.
On February 1, 2010 we celebrated our 50th anniversary. Learn about our past 50 years.
