Boston, MA - January 10, 2008
Burns & Levinson LLP announces that it will sponsor and Partner Josef B. Volman will participate as a judge for the entrepreneur competition “You Be the VC”, created by Bang Ventures, that seeks to find the next great start-up companies through a review of experts. Three winners will be selected and given the opportunity to take their start ups from concept to operational company with a prize package that includes access to money, resources as well as experienced advisors and media.
“We encourage and support this entrepreneurial nature and the development of cutting-edge technology, since many of our clients are start-ups and emerging companies,” said Attorney Josef B. Volman, Co-Chair of Burns & Levinson’s Business Law Department. “Venture Capital is the life blood of many start-ups and we enjoy being an integral part of helping companies gain access to capital and strategically guide them to grow their business.” Burns & Levinson runs its own similar competition, the Power of an Idea® Scholarship Contest for future entrepreneurs and inventors. It is open to all Boston public high and charter school students and parallels the efforts of You Be the VC by reaching out to and encouraging future entrepreneurs and inventors to invest in science and technology.
Volman, who represents entrepreneurs, start-up and emerging companies, private equity and venture funds, investors, public companies and investment banking firms, will be in good company with others from the financial, investment and technology industries such as Google. Entrepreneurs are also in the mix to include world champion Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling who has a start-up called 38 Studios.
The You Be the VC competition focuses on technologies for Web 2.0, including social networking, advanced search, Enterprise 2.0, advertising and mobile applications. The prize is a complete launch pad for creating a successful start-up: investment capital, office space, programming/web development, legal, accounting and business strategy consultation, and marketing sales and support.
