Burns & Levinson Partner Joseph Maraia Named Intellectual Property Co-Chair

Burns & Levinson announced today that partner Joseph Maraia has been named Co-Chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property practice. Maraia, who is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee, will serve as co-chair of the Intellectual Property Group with current co-chair Deborah Peckham. The group includes attorneys with expertise in life sciences and technology, trademark, copyright and licensing issues, and privacy and data security. “We are excited to have Joe Maraia take on this important management role,” said David Rosenblatt, managing partner at Burns & Levinson. “He is a strong leader at our firm and in his field. We look forward to his continued leadership.” Maraia counsels clients in the engineering arts and biotechnology sectors, with particular emphasis on medical devices, LED lighting solutions, sensor technologies, semiconductor equipment, power supplies, lasers, image processing devices, optical components, plasma systems, alternative energy technologies, financial services, multimedia, multivariate analysis techniques, and software and telecommunications systems. He assists clients with U.S. and foreign patent and trademark prosecution, proceedings before Patent Trial and Appeal Board of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, as well as copyright prosecution before the U.S. Copyright Office; and patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret and unfair competition litigation matters before state and federal courts, including the United States International Trade Commission.

Maraia was named an “Intellectual Property Trailblazer” by the National Law Journal in 2017 and has been named an “IP Star” by Managing Intellectual Property for five consecutive years. He is listed in Chambers USA, The Best Lawyers in America and Massachusetts Super Lawyers. He received his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School and his B.S. in electrical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
