When long-time client Richelieu Foods, a private equity-backed, private label manufacturer of frozen pizza, dressings and sauces, headquartered in Massachusetts, was looking to expand its operations, it turned to Burns for strategic input and practical legal advice, culminating in the opening of its new facility in Wheeling, IL. Burns' Real Estate group provided guidance in the “due diligence” assessment of an initial site for the new production facility in Kansas.
After Richelieu decided to look for another site, following successful due diligence, Burns negotiated the lease, worked through the design-build and, with input from its FDA attorney, advised Richelieu in complying with food service industry regulatory guidelines for the Wheeling location. The Wheeling facility opened in August 2016 with much fanfare and is anticipated to create more than 100 jobs and private-label products for distribution throughout the US. Burns also has been and continues to be Richelieu’s go-to law firm for employment, litigation and trademark matters.
