Burns & Levinson Plans Move to 125 High Street, Boston

August 15, 2018

Burns & Levinson today announced that it has signed a 15-year lease to occupy approximately 100,000 square feet at 125 High Street in Boston. The law firm will relocate from 125 Summer Street in Boston – which has been the firm’s home for 28 years – to the 30-story, 950,000 s/f Class A office tower in Boston’s Financial District in July 2019.

The new space features a larger floor plate across two floors – versus the firm’s current five-floor configuration – that will allow Burns & Levinson to create an environment that better reflects the collaborative way that the firm’s 250 plus lawyers and staff currently work and interact. Burns & Levinson has hired Gensler to design the interior. The property is owned and operated by Tishman Speyer.

“We are very excited about this move, and the opportunity to develop this space to our exact specifications. We love the new location which borders on two important symbols of the new Boston: the Greenway and the Seaport,” said David P. Rosenblatt, managing partner at Burns & Levinson. “Our approach to practice – collaborative, hands-on and personalized – will be enhanced by our new office. The new space will bring us together on two connected floors that will be designed from the ground up for interaction.”

While the designs for the new space are not complete, Burns & Levinson plans to include a grand staircase that connects its two floors into one cohesive office. Burns’ goal is to create a space that fits the entrepreneurial style of lawyering that predominates in the firm. Multiple common areas for people to talk, work, and interact in comfortable and engaging environments will promote collaboration and help build a sense of community. Overall, the office will be very open with the use of lots of glass to bring natural light – and the energy of Boston and the Greenway below – throughout the space.

“Burns & Levinson is one of New England’s most prestigious law firms,” noted Tishman Speyer Managing Director Jessica Hughes. “The decision to call 125 High Street, strategically located in the heart of the Financial District, home for the next 15 years makes perfect sense. We’re looking forward to building a great working relationship.”

Burns & Levinson was founded in Boston in 1960, and originally moved to 125 Summer Street in 1990. While many of Boston’s top local law firms have embraced the “bigger is better” approach to practicing law, Burns has seized the opportunity to turn its client-centered approach, prestigious national recognition in its core practice areas, smaller and more personalized service orientation, and deep roots in New England into a competitive advantage.
