Paul Sorkin is of counsel in the firm’s Intellectual Property and Patent Groups. He has more than 20 years of experience obtaining, defending and evaluating patents as a patent attorney in both large and small law firms and as in-house patent counsel for a large high technology corporation.

After almost a decade as an engineer, Paul has spent more than 20 years advising clients as to how best to protect their intellectual property assets. His insight and understanding of the process of innovation gives him a unique set of tools to use for his clients.

Clients, including corporations of all sizes as well as individual inventors, rely on his experience preparing, prosecuting and maintaining their patent and trademark portfolios. Paul focuses on obtaining patent protection aligned with business requirements and product lines, regularly conducting evaluations of patent portfolios for product clearance, non-infringement and invalidity opinions. He has experience reviewing the competition’s products to identify potential issues of infringement. Regularly he prepares patent applications for electrical, electromechanical, electronic and software-based technologies in addition to applications for medical devices.

Paul worked in the high-tech industry as a test engineer and project engineer prior to becoming a patent attorney, and he is able to leverage that experience to work well with inventors on a personal level.
