Prior to joining Burns & Levinson, Ricardo received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry of Natural Products from the State University of New York in association with Syracuse University. His research was focused on the synthesis and nuclear magnetic resonance characterization of unusual marine sterols, including the 24-epimers of two bioactive marine sponge sterols that are natural ligands for human nuclear receptors, farnesoid X receptor and pregnane X receptor. His work provided synthetic methods for the aforementioned sterols and provided samples for biological studies of their effects on the growth and development of ecologically important marine grazers. He has authored and presented scientific publications in the fields of organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry. He is the recipient of multiple graduate awards that include the John A. Meyer Graduate Fellowship (2017) and the Syracuse Research Corporation Graduate Student Fellowship (2015).
