Partners Lisa Cukier and Steven Goodwin Named to “Divorce, Trusts & Estates Trailblazer” List

May 1, 2017

Burns & Levinson announced today that Lisa Cukier and Steven Goodwin, partners in the firm’s Private Client group, have been named to the “Divorce, Trusts & Estates Trailblazers” list by The National Law Journal (NLJ). According to the NLJ, each of the attorneys recognized have “shown a deep passion and perseverance in pursuit of their mission, having achieved remarkable successes along the way.”

Lisa Cukier splits her practice between high conflict divorces and high profile trusts and estate litigation, and is well-known for her ability to handle the toughest of cases. The NLJ noted the “many different facets” of Cukier’s practice including her trailblazing work with “LGBT law, well before the Commonwealth’s first same sex marriage case prevailed” and her focus representing “elderly and disabled persons who are being financially exploited or neglected, mistreated or abused.” Cukier’s practice also includes handling complex child custody, parentage issues, blended family issues, adoption, and guardianship and conservatorship. She received her J.D. from Suffolk University Law School and her B.A. from Northeastern University.

Throughout his 40-year career, Steve Goodwin has developed a national reputation as the go-to attorney for entrepreneurs with especially difficult estate planning challenges. He is sought after for his immense expertise in transitioning family businesses from one generation to another, particularly when competing interests threaten to derail the process. The NLJ noted, “One recent success involved giving an operating business with revenue of more than $150 million and 600 employees to the client’s alma mater.” Goodwin’s trusts and estates practice involves advising clients on the intricacies of purchase and sale agreements, funded irrevocable life insurance trusts, charitable remainder and similar split interest vehicles, and in the settlement of complex audits. Goodwin received his J.D. from Boston College Law School and his B.S. from Siena College.

“We’re proud to have supported Lisa and Steve’s numerous successes throughout their careers,” said David Rosenblatt, managing partner at Burns & Levinson. “Their passion for their work is something that deserves to be celebrated and honored.”
