Press Release

Andrea Martin Named Burns & Levinson General Counsel

January 8, 2024

Boston, MA, Jan. 8, 2024 – Burns & Levinson LLP today announced that Andrea Martin, partner and co-chair of the firm’s Business Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group, has been named General Counsel of the firm. As GC, Martin will be responsible for maintaining the firm’s high professional standards, advising attorneys on client engagement issues, developing and implementing policies and procedures for risk management and compliance with ethical rules, and managing claims against the firm.

Martin will continue to support clients with ongoing litigation needs. She is taking over for Jeffrey Martin (no relation), who has held the role for 13 years, and she has served as Associate General Counsel for the past nine months as part of the transition process.

“We are thrilled that Andrea has agreed to be our next GC. She is incredibly smart, capable, and has the trust and respect of everyone at the firm,” said Paul Mastrocola, managing partner at Burns & Levinson. “She is a great listener who has the unique ability to quickly assess situations, find a path forward and build consensus for the solutions she puts forth. She will be an excellent GC and we are fortunate to have her.”

At Burns & Levinson since the beginning of her career, Martin joined the firm in 2006 after graduating from law school. She became a partner in 2017 and was named co-chair of the Business Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group in 2019. She is a strong advocate with deep experience as a business and legal counselor, in civic litigation and dispute resolution, and as a creative problem-solver.

“I have very big shoes to fill but am honored to have been asked to serve in this important firm role,” said Andrea Martin. “I am excited about this new chapter in my career and the opportunity to be a part of guiding the firm’s future. There are so many different challenges that law firms are facing today, from cybersecurity issues to the ethics of using artificial intelligence, and I look forward to helping our attorneys handle whatever is on the horizon.”

Martin received her J.D., magna cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School and her B.S. from Boston College.
