Max Borg is a partner in the firm’s Business Law department and is a member of the firm’s Cannabis Business & Law Advisory practice.
Max advises business operators and founders, license holders, brands, technology and other ancillary businesses, investors and funds operating in the emerging legal cannabis industry. His practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings (and investments therein), debt financings, restructurings, securities laws compliance, corporate governance, and related commercial transactions. In addition to his transactional practice, Max serves as outside general counsel to various licensed cannabis dispensaries, cultivators and manufacturers, helping them navigate an increasingly complex business and regulatory environment through all stages of the business cycle.
Max has developed a reputation for providing practical, strategic business guidance to his clients to enable them to make key decisions through the lens of generating both short-term and long-term growth.
Prior to joining Burns & Levinson, Max practiced corporate law at a leading boutique, cannabis-focused, law firm in New York. He began his career as an associate in the corporate department of Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, where he focused on mergers and acquisitions, public and private securities offerings, debt financings, corporate governance, and general corporate matters. While at Debevoise, he also represented debtors, investors, creditors and other parties in distressed M&A, workouts, refinancings, complex restructurings and Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.
