overview

Timothy J. Conlon is one of the leading divorce attorneys in Rhode Island and the surrounding region. He is well-versed in difficult family law conflicts, including child custody, visitation, child/spousal support, interstate relocation, complex property division, and more. He has handled contentious divisions and reorganizations of marital businesses, both on behalf of the acquiring and the selling spouse.

“Many clients come in with fear, sometimes just of the unknown, sometimes of ‘the process,’” Tim says. “I’ve guided spouses through some of the most contentious and complicated divorces, creating solutions that allowed my client to not only get through what seemed an impossible conflict, but find their best selves,” he adds. “What fires me up is seeing a client years after the fact, thrilled to have gotten to where they are.”

One of Tim's strongest assets is his skill and tenacity in digital discovery during family law cases, uncovering hidden assets and other secrets the other party may be hiding during a divorce or separation. He literally “wrote the book” -- Electronic Evidence for Family Law Attorneys -- for the ABA’s Family Law Section, and is in the process of writing a second book on cryptocurrency.

experience

  • Closed a ‘hostile take over’ of a marital business on behalf of a spouse that had run the back end of one of the RI’s largest mental health providers when her husband faltered and the business he founded was threatened.  Today, that business thrives under her leadership.
  • Closed 8 figure sale of a spouse’s interest in a leading regional hard-cider company he founded under a deal that had been structured with ex at the time of divorce to allow him to move forward while securing her defined marital share
  • Chaired the Plaintiff’s Counsel Committee in RI’s Clergy abuse litigation, and in that capacity, negotiated and closed settlement of 36 cases on behalf of victims in 2002, after nearly a decade of contentious litigation and discovery on two continents into the practices of the Church relative to clergy abuse.
